Yawning Bread Photo Essay - April 2006
Nomination Day

The first thing I saw when I arrived at about 11.30h was a crowd of people in the all-white People's Action Party (PAP) colours. What you see in the picture is only about 10-20% of the entire crowd. I figured they had about 600 party members there, at just this one Nomination Centre.

The candidates had one hour, between 11.00h and 12.00 noon to file their papers, after which their opponents had 30 minutes to scrutinise what they had filed and to raise objections.

Thus, this crowd, which must have gathered before 11.00h, would have to wait till at least 12.30h before they would know whether there'd be a contest in East Coast and Pasir Ris - Punggol Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs).
